Pre-Travel Vaccinations
If you’re planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.
In the UK, the NHS routine immunisation (vaccination) schedule protects you against a number of diseases, but does not cover all of the infectious diseases found overseas.
Spinney Hill Medical Centre is able to provide certain travel vaccinations that are available for free on the NHS. These include polio, typhoid, hepatitis A, tetanus, MMR and cholera. Any other vaccinations would need to be obtained privately from an independent travel clinic (EG: Community Pharmacy)
In order to arrange travel vaccinations we require you to complete a “Pre-Travel Information” form and return back to the practice. Speak with our front receptionist and they will provide you a copy. If more than one family member is travelling, please ensure you take additional forms > complete > return.
One of our Practice Nurse will review your form > will then contact you to discuss vaccinations required or signpost you to a private travel clinic for non-NHS vaccines.
It is important this occurs well in advance of your holiday (at least eight – 12 weeks in advance) in order to allow time for vaccination appointments to be arranged. Note that some vaccines must be given at least 10 days before travel for them to be effective.
To arrange a travel triage appointment please contact the surgery and we will be in touch with you directly.
